UFC Fight Night Results: Fight Ends After 11-Second Eye-Poke
One of the most anticipated fights of UFC Fight Night 235 was ruled a no-contest after just eleven seconds.
15-0-0 Aliaskhab Khizriev managed to eye-poke Makhmud Muradov with the very first strike he threw. After some deliberation from referee Herb Dean and the ringside doctor, the fight was waved off. Muradov's eye swelled completely shut in the meantime.
It marks an extremely underwhelming result for one of the night's more intriguing fights. Khizriev was returning from a two-year hiatus, and Muradov had just snapped a losing streak marred by numerous cancellations.
Khizriev and Muradov have 12 cancellations between them in a combined nine UFC appearances - and now a sub-minute no-contest adds salt to the wound for hopeful spectators.
This middleweight matchup will most likely be rebooked for a later date depending on the severity of Muradov's injury. It might be do-or-die for "Mach" in his next fight, as the Tajikistan fighter has fought just five times since 2019, only recently snapping a losing streak in a hard-fought decision with Bryan Barbarena.
