Lineal 'BMF' champion Jorge Masvidal favors himself in a hypothetical BMF title fight with Justin Gaethje.

"Gamebred" went 0-4 after claiming the inaugural BMF championship and retired the lineal 'champion'. Though the BMF title isn't just a novelty, it grants the owner champion status and a share of a card's PPV points, making it a powerful bargaining chip.

Justin Gaethje is set to defend against Max Holloway at UFC 300 in April, and Masvidal was keen to laud Gaethje's skills before giving his two-pence on how he'd fare against "The Highlight":

"Justin is very good," Masvidal told Lowkick MMA. ".... But I just feel like, man, if you put BMF against BMF - you put me against Gaethje. I will break his f****** eye orbital and I will f****** chop him up. So hopefully that can happen at some point, you know?"

For this to happen, however, Gaethje must first overcome Holloway at UFC 300. He not only faces the Hawaiian, but an unsettling trend in men's MMA which has befallen many fighters before him.

Male fighters aged 35 and above in divisions below welterweight have a zero-percent win rate in title fights. It all depends on whether the BMF title 'counts' for this trend. Gaethje turned 35 in November 2023, while Holloway is just 32; it could get interesting.
