UFC Pros React to Sean Strickland Defeating Israel Adesanya
Sean "Tarzan" Strickland has been making waves in the MMA community with his dominant unanimous decision victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 on Sept 9.

This outcome is on par with memorable upsets like Leon Edwards knocking out Kamaru Usman and Holly Holm defeating Ronda Rousey.
It's worth noting that Holm's historic upset occurred precisely 100 events before UFC 293, also in Australia. Strickland was a +475 underdog in the fight so it's fair to say very few people expected the outcome.
UFC President Dana White: The Rematch Should Absolutely Happen
Dana White appeared at the UFC 293 post-fight press conference, where he gave his thoughts on whether a rematch is in order:
"I think you do the rematch, absolutely," White remarked. "The rematch is interesting."
White continued to discuss whether Adesanya's saga with Alex Pereira could have impacted his UFC 293 performance:
"[Rematching Pereira] could be the thing too. When you think about --- you're going into the Pereira fights - such a big fight - you know, and you've been in there with this guy so many times, and then you overlook Strickland.
"...I don't know the answer to these questions... but Israel does, and I'm looking forward to hearing it."
Daniel Cormier Believes Israel Adesanya Doesn't Deserve a Rematch Against Sean Strickland
Former UFC double-champion turned commentator Daniel Cormier firmly believes "Stylebender" doesn't deserve the rematch. Cormier explained his perspective during the ESPN+ UFC 293 wrap-up show on the night of the loss:
"The last time [Adesanya] lost all we could speak about was 'he should be next again'", Cormier exclaimed. "...I don't think he should fight for a belt next time. I don't think he should get an automatic rematch, I think the division needs to move on a little bit."
Michael Bisping: Other Contenders Deserve the Shot Over Adesanya
Former middleweight champion turned commentator Michael Bisping firmly believes Adesanya doesn't deserve a second-shot at Strickland and that other contenders should have their chance.
Bisping took to his YouTube channel on September 10 to discuss the matter:
"[Adesanya's] lost two out of his last three now. If it was the first time that he'd lost, then granted, but when you lose two out of your last three it's kind of hard to make that case.
"And of course with Pereira, [Adesanya] had that long, long history with him as well from the kickboxing so it kind of made sense. But --- I think Dricus Du Plessis, I think even Robert Whittaker, maybe, Jared Cannonier's also got a great case."
Alex Pereira: I Had Nothing to Do With Sean Strickland's Victory
Strickland's training partner and former middleweight champion Alex Pereira weighed in on what he might have contributed to Strickland's victory. "Poatan" laid out his thoughts in a YouTube video on September 10:
"He won on his own, It's totally his success," Pereira lauded Strickland. "Because he's such a dedicated guy with a unique style. And he really showed us what he's got in his fight with Adesanya.
"All his, I had nothing to do with it despite the days he spent training with me. We didn't train a lot, but we had some good talks that might have made a difference. Not only for this fight, but his career in general... and mine too."
