UFC Star Ian Machado-Garry Gives his Prediction for Colby Covington vs. Leon Edwards
Irish UFC star Ian Machado-Garry has declared that "Leon Edwards absolutely annihilates Colby Covington" in a hypothetical matchup. Garry gave his prediction in an interview with Sky Sports on August 17, where he revealed his thoughts about Covington and his status as a fighter:
"[Covington] gets so much credit for losing. I'm telling you now, Colby Covington is not what he's [being made out to be]. Leon Edwards will just dispose of him in that octagon.
"...And then I'll fight him," Garry exclaimed. "And [I'll knock him out again, I'll show him.]"
Garry maintained the same sentiment during the UFC 292 press-conference on august 16:
"I think Leon absolutely smashes [Covington]. Colby gets a lot of hype for nothing," Garry remarked.
"The biggest thing Colby Covington has done is lose to Kamaru Usman twice... twice. Leon has gone out and beat Kamaru Usman, twice.
"I think Leon is absolutely, surgically --- I think he's gonna dominate him. I've trained with Leon, and I know how good Leon is."
Garry heaped praise on Edwards.
"Leon's a phenomenal athlete, he's amazing in every single aspect of the game. His wrestling, his jiu-jitsu is so underrated because people talk about him as a kickboxer. I guarantee you he absolutely runs through Colby. I guarantee it."
Of course, Edwards vs. Covington isn't officially on the cards for a 2023 showdown. The matchup may be targeted but it lacks any official sources; any reports claiming its official are baseless at this point in time.
For the time being, Garry has his sights set on Neil Magny at UFC 292 on August 19, and a victory surely secures him a shot at the welterweight top-five. Before we know it, Garry's name could be in the mix with Edwards or Covington.
