UFC Vegas 79 Results & Highlights: Fiziev vs. Gamrot Ends With Injury

The lightweight main event ended anticlimactically due to an injury in the second round.

The UFC ended a lengthy road trip when it returned to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for Noche UFC, and the following weekend the promotion headed back to the UFC Apex facility for an event headlined by top lightweight contenders.

The night’s main event saw Rafael Fiziev and Mateuz Gamrot attempt to break into the lightweight Top 5 when they met in an intriguing clash of styles. Both men had success in the opening round of a fight that looked to be shaping up quite well, but unfortunately Fiziev suffered an injury in the second round off of a blocked kick and was unable to continue.

The featherweight co-main event featured Bryce Mitchell returning from the first loss of his career to meet #12-ranked Dan Ige. “50K” was looking to take Mitchell’s place in the Top 10 after earning back-to-back wins this year, but “Thug Nasty” spent enough time controlling Ige on the ground to take a unanimous decision.
