Indiana Fever have No. 1 pick for second straight year
The Indiana Fever received the No. 1 pick for a second straight season — arguably the biggest storyline heading into this year's WNBA Draft. The franchise is expected to select Iowa star Caitlin Clark, who became the NCAA's all-time leading scorer during her senior season with the Hawkeyes.
Last year, Indiana picked South Carolina's Aliyah Boston with the top overall pick. In her rookie campaign with the Fever, Boston averaged 14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
After a phenomenal first season, Boston was named the WNBA Rookie of the Year and was an All-Star selection. Pairing Boston with Clark could provide the Fever with a bright future in the league.
"Fortunately, I've had that experience with two, back-to-back first round picks," said Fever general manager Lin Dunn, reflecting on her time with the Seattle Storm. "It's been a long time, but I know what an impact it can have on a franchise, when we were able to select Lauren Jackson (2001) and Sue Bird (2002). The rest is history."
