The Brooklyn Nets have had a volatile season but are currently tied with the Miami Heat for the sixth seed (the final guaranteed playoff spot) in the Eastern Conference.

However, they will be without one of their best players going forward, as three-time NBA All-Star Ben Simmons has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

Via Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium: "The Nets have ruled out Ben Simmons for the remainder of the season. Simmons is beginning a rehab program on his back, Nets coach Jacque Vaughn says."

Simmons finished the year with averages of 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.3 steals per contest in 42 games (while shooting 56.6% from the field).

He last played in a game on February 15, so the Nets have already been without the former LSU star for an extended period.

This had been his first season playing for the franchise after getting traded (via the Philadelphia 76ers) on the day of the 2021-22 Trading Deadline.

Before missing all of last season, Simmons had been to the All-Star Game three times in a row and was one of the best young stars in the league.

Right now, the Nets have a 40-35 record in 75 games and are 3-7 in their last ten games.

They have a much different roster than they did at the beginning of the season, as the organization traded away superstars Kevin Durant (to the Phoenix Suns) and Kyrie Irving (to the Dallas Mavericks).
