BREAKING: Boston Celtics Player Suffered A Torn ACL

Jay Scrubb (Boston Celtics) suffered a torn ACL.

Jay Scrubb is coming off a year where he appeared in two regular-season games for the Orlando Magic.

Over the offseason, he signed a two-way deal with the Boston Celtics after playing well in the NBA Summer League.

On Sunday evening, the Celtics announced that Scrubb suffered a torn ACL during Saturday's practice.

Via The Celtics: "#NEBHInjuryReport Jay Scrubb suffered a torn right ACL during practice yesterday. Further updates will be provided as appropriate."

The news is very disappointing as the 23-year-old would have been able to earn minutes as a role player off the bench.

In addition to his time with the Magic last year, Scrubb also played in the G League.

He averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 45.7% from the field and 28.3% from the three-point range in 28 regular season games (he also appeared in 17 Showcase Cup games).

Scrubb was initially the 55th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has spent part of three seasons in the league with the Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando Magic.

His career averages are 4.0 points and 1.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 41.6% from the field and 31.3% from the three-point range in 24 regular season games (he has also appeared in six NBA playoff games with the Clippers).

As for the Celtics, they are coming off a year where they were the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 57-25 record.

They lost to the Miami Heat in the Conference Finals (in seven games).
