BREAKING: Denver Nuggets Player Reportedly Suffers Torn ACL
Vlatko Cancar is coming off a year where he played in 60 regular season games for the Denver Nuggets (he also appeared in five NBA playoff games).
The former second-round pick averaged 5.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 47.6% from the field and 37.4% from the three-point range.
This summer, Cancar is playing for the Slovenia men's basketball team, and in a recent game got injured.
According to Mike Singer of The Denver Post, Cancar has suffered a torn ACL.
Via Singer: "#Nuggets forward Vlatko Cancar suffered a torn ACL in his left knee playing for Slovenia yesterday, source told @denverpost. There’s no timetable for surgery as of yet."
Cancar was a solid role player for the Nuggets, who finished as the first seed in the Western Conference with a 53-29 record.
The 26-year-old was initially the 49th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Nuggets and has spent his entire four-year career with the franchise.
His career averages are 3.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 47.9% from the field and 36.1% from the three-point range in 130 regular season games (he has also appeared in 12 NBA playoff games).
Based on the injury, Cancar will likely miss a significant amount of time.
Following their strong regular season, the Nuggets won the 2023 NBA Championship over the Miami Heat (in five games).
Cancar has two years and $4.7 million left on his contract with the Nuggets, but the final year has a team option.
