BREAKING: New York Knicks Player Reportedly Expected To Miss Remainder Of Season
On Wednesday evening, the New York Knicks played the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center in New York.
The Knicks won the game by a score of 121-102, and Julius Randle led the way with 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists while shooting 9/20 from the field.
They were playing without starting center Mitchell Robinson, who has missed each of the previous five games.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium now reports that Robinson is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season.
Via Charania: "The New York Knicks have applied to the NBA for a Disabled Player Exception worth $7.8 million as the franchise projects center Mitchell Robinson will miss the rest of the season, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Major development as Robinson had ankle surgery last week."
Robinson has played in 21 games this season and is averaging 6.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per contest while shooting 59.2% from the field.
The 25-year-old was the 36th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and is in his sixth season in the league (all with the Knicks).
He is the team's best rebounder and rim protector.
With the victory over the Nets, the Knicks improved to 16-11 in their first 27 games, which has them as the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference.
They are 6-4 over their last ten games and in the middle of a two-game winning streak.
The Knicks will play their next game on Saturday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks.
