BREAKING: OKC Thunder Player Out For 6 Weeks
Aleksej Pokusevski is coming off a year where he played in 34 games for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The former first-round pick averaged 8.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 43.4% from the field and 36.5% from the three-point range.
On Wednesday, the Thunder announced that Pokusevski has a sprained ankle and will be out for six weeks.
Via ESPN's Tim MacMahon: "Per Thunder, Aleksej Pokuševski sprained his right ankle and will be re-evaluated in approximately six weeks, meaning the former first-round pick is likely to be sidelined to start the regular season."
Pokusevski was initially the 17th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has spent the first three seasons of his career with the Thunder.
Over 140 games, he has career averages of 7.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest while shooting 38.9% from the field and 30.1% from the three-point range.
In addition to the NBA, the 21-year-old has also spent time in the G League and has career averages of 7.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.1 blocks per contest in 28 games (he has also appeared in two Showcase Cup games).
As for the Thunder, they are coming off a season where they were the tenth seed in the Western Conference with a 40-42 record.
Despite coming into the year with no expectations, the Thunder were able to beat the New Orleans Pelicans in the play-in tournament.
They lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second game, so they missed the NBA playoffs, but the season was still a success.
