UPDATE: Joel Embiid's Current Injury Status For 76ers-Celtics Game
UPDATE: Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Joel Embiid will play.
On Wednesday evening, the Philadelphia 76ers will be in Massachusetts to face off against the Boston Celtics for Game 2 of their second-round playoff series.
They won Game 1 by a score of 119-115 (also in Boston) behind James Harden's incredible 45-point performance.
In addition, the 76ers were playing without their best player Joel Embiid who has missed each of the last two games due to a knee injury.
For Game 2, he is currently listed on the injury report as doubtful.
That said, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that Embiid will likely make his return to the lineup on Wednesday evening.
Charania: "After winning MVP last night, during a quick 76ers celebration, Joel Embiid turned to the team and said: “I’m back.”
Embiid is indeed on track to return tonight in Game 2 vs. Celtics barring setbacks, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium."
The 76ers finished as the third seed in the Eastern Conference with a 54-28 record.
In the first round, they swept the Brooklyn Nets (Embiid didn't play in the final game).
During the regular season, the superstar center averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.7 blocks per contest while shooting 54.8% from the field.
On Tuesday evening, Embiid was officially announced as the MVP of the 2023 season.
Games 3 and 4 will be in Philadelphia on Friday and Sunday.
Whoever wins the series will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals and face off against either the New York Knicks or the Miami Heat.
