New Orleans Pelicans Give Huge Update On Zion Williamson's Status For Remainder Of Season

Out since early January with a right hamstring strain, the New Orleans Pelicans gave an update on Zion Williamson's injury on Wednesday.

Zion Williamson last played for the New Orleans Pelicans on January 2 due to a right hamstring strain.

With him out of the lineup, the Pelicans have 18-25 and are fighting to keep their season alive, as they are outside of the Play-In Tournament picture in the Western Conference with limited games remaining.

Getting Zion Williamson back out on the floor and healthy would be huge for the Pelicans and on Wednesday, the team gave an update on his hamstring injury.

New Orleans Pelicans: "Medical Update on Zion Williamson: Following a re-evaluation on his right hamstring strain, Zion Williamson has been cleared to return to on-court activities. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks."

It is certainly good news for Zion and the Pelicans that the star forward has been cleared to return to on-court activities, but set to be re-evaluated again in two weeks is not necessarily the best case scenario for New Orleans.

The Pelicans last game of the season is on April 9 and being out for another two weeks means that Zion will return to action no earlier than Apr. 5 and that is not including time for him to practice at full-speed and get back to full basketball activities.

Zion Williamson could very much miss the remainder of the regular season and return for the Pelicans should they make the playoffs or Play-In Tournament in the Western Conference.

In four years with the Pelicans, Zion has not played in more than 61 games and so far this season, he has only played in 29 total games. When he has been on the floor, Williamson has been one of the most impactful players in the league, but health has been a major factor for the former No. 1 overall pick.

The Pelicans will continues to monitor Zion Williamson's status heading towards the end of the regular season, but heading into the offseason, finding ways to keep him healthy and on the court will be key for this franchise, especially if they are to compete at the highest-level possible.
