JaVale McGee is coming off a year where he appeared in 42 regular season games for the Dallas Mavericks.

The three-time NBA Champion averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 64.0% from the field.

On Tuesday, Marc Stein of The Stein Line reports that the Mavs will likely waive McGee.

Via Stein: "The Mavericks are expected to waive-and-stretch veteran center JaVale McGee by the league's Aug. 31 deadline, league sources tell @TheSteinLine, barring an unforeseen trade that requires the inclusion of McGee's contract.

Following Stein's report, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium added more details.

Via Charania: "The Dallas Mavericks are planning to stretch-and-waive center JaVale McGee and re-sign F/C Markieff Morris on a deal, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Mavs must execute stretch-and-waive by next week."

McGee was initially the 18th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft out of Nevada by the Washington Wizards.

He spent the first three and a half seasons of his career with Washington and has also played for the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers over 15 seasons.

The 35-year-old has career averages of 7.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest while shooting 57.8% from the field in 863 regular season games (he has also appeared in 74 NBA playoff games).

Since McGee is a solid veteran with extensive experience, he could be a good pickup for many teams.

As for the Mavs, they are coming off a year where they were the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a 38-44 record.
