BREAKING: Boston Celtics Release 4-Year NBA Player
Wenyen Gabriel is coming off a year where he played in 68 regular season games for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Gabriel averaged 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 59.6% from the field.
He also appeared in ten NBA playoff games as the Lakers made the Western Conference Finals (they lost to the Denver Nuggets).
This summer, he became a free agent and signed a deal with the Boston Celtics.
However, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that Boston is now waiving Gabriel.
Via Charania: "The Boston Celtics are waiving F/C Wenyen Gabriel, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium."
Gabriel went undrafted in 2018 after two seasons of college basketball playing for Kentucky.
He has played four years in the NBA for the New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.
His career averages are 4.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 53.1% from the field in 145 regular season games.
Considering Gabriel played a solid role for the Lakers last season, he could be a good pickup for many teams.
The regular season will begin in less than a week, so he will be a name to watch.
As for the Celtics, they are coming off a year where they were the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 57-25 record.
They beat the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers in the first two rounds of the NBA playoffs but lost to the Miami Heat in the Conference Finals.
