BREAKING: The Brooklyn Nets Have Traded Kevin Durant
On Wednesday evening, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Brooklyn Nets have traded 13-time NBA All-Star Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns.
Via Wojnarowski: "The Suns are sending Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four first-round picks, a 2028 pick swap for Durant and TJ Warren, sources tell ESPN. Durant wanted move and new owner Mat Ishbia pushed to get deal done tonight."
The deal now makes the Suns arguably the most talented team in the NBA, as they have Durant, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Chris Paul on the roster.
In 2021, the Suns made the NBA Finals, and in 2022, they had the best record in the league (64-18).
Durant had been in his third season playing for the Nets and is currently averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest (while shooting 55.9% from the field and 37.6% from the three-point range).
He has been out since January 8 with an MCL sprain.
On Monday, the Nets traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, so many speculated about the future of Durant following the loss of Irving.
His tenure with the Nets will end up being looked back on as a failure because the team only won just one playoff series in that time span.
While Durant played well individually, they got swept in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs (and lost in Game 7 of the second round of the 2021 playoffs).
At 34 years old, he is in his 15th season playing in the NBA and has also played for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors.
Durant is a two-time NBA Champion and will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer one day.
The Suns are tied for the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 30-26 record in 56 games.
