BREAKING: Dallas Mavericks Reportedly Sign 7-Year NBA Veteran

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Dallas Mavericks will sign Derrick Jones Jr.

Derrick Jones Jr. is coming off a year where he played in 64 regular season games for the Chicago Bulls and averaged 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 50.0% from the field and 33.8% from the three-point range.

This summer, the seven-year NBA veteran became a free agent, and Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that he will sign with the Dallas Mavericks

Via Charania: "Free agent F/C Derrick Jones Jr. has agreed to a one-year fully guaranteed deal with the Dallas Mavericks, his agent Aaron Turner of @VerusTeam told @TheAthletic @Stadium."

In addition to his two seasons with the Bulls, Jones Jr. has also spent time with the Miami Heat, Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns.

The 26-year-old has career averages of 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 50.8% from the field and 30.4% from the three-point range in 344 regular season games (he has also appeared in 22 NBA playoff games).

In 2022, Jones Jr. helped the Bulls reach the NBA playoffs for the first time since the 2017 season, and he was on the Heat when they made the 2020 NBA Finals.

Considering he is just now hitting the prime of his career, Jones Jr. could turn out to be a good signing by the Mavs.

The Mavs made the Western Conference Finals in 2022, but they are coming off a season where they went just 38-44 and finished as the 11th seed in the Western Conference (missing the postseason).
