BREAKING: Dallas Mavericks Reportedly Waiving Former All-Star
On Thursday evening, the Dallas Mavericks lost 124-95 to the Boston Celtics at home in Texas.
Kemba Walker played two minutes and had two points.
The four-time NBA All-Star signed with the team in the middle of the season and has averages of 8.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in nine games.
On Friday morning, ESPN's Tim MacMahon reports that the Mavs are waiving Walker.
MacMahon: "Sources: Mavs are waiving Kemba Walker, whose salary would have become guaranteed Saturday. Two-way G McKinley Wright IV has earned minutes and Mavs also want to leave path for rookie Jaden Hardy to get playing time. Walker had 32-point game for Mavs and was ultimate pro."
In addition to the Mavs, Walker has also played for the Charlotte Hornets, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.
He has career averages of 19.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 750 games.
While his days of being a star are clearly over, the 32-year-old could be a good pickup for a team looking for a backup point guard.
If he clears waivers, he will be a free agent available to sign with any team in the NBA.
With the loss to the Celtics, the Mavs had their seven-game winning streak snapped, and they are currently the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 22-17 record.
They will play their next game on Saturday night when they host the New Orleans Pelicans.
Last season, the Mavs made the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2011.
