BREAKING: Denver Nuggets Reportedly Sign New Player
Braxton Key is coming off a season where he played three games for the Detroit Pistons and averaged 1.3 points per contest.
The 26-year-old played his college basketball for Alabama and Virginia and was ranked as the 34th best high school player in the class of 2016 (by ESPN).
On Thursday evening, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that he is signing with the Denver Nuggets on a two-way contract.
Via Wojnarowski: "Free agent F Braxton Key has agreed on a two-way contract with the Denver Nuggets, his agents Anthony Coleman and Max Lipsett of @excelbasketball tell ESPN."
In addition to the Pistons, Key has also spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers.
His career averages are 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest while shooting 46.6% from the field in 14 regular season games.
Key has also spent a significant amount of time in the G League, and this past year he averaged 13.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest while shooting 52.3% from the field and 40.2% from the three-point range in 30 regular season games.
Adding him on a two-way contract will allow the Nuggets to use him in the NBA while he can also continue playing in the G League.
This past year, the Nuggets were the first seed in the Western Conference with a 53-29 record.
They beat the Minnesota Timberwolves (in five games), Phoenix Suns (in six games), Los Angeles Lakers (in four games) and Miami Heat (in five games) to win the 2023 NBA Championship.
