BREAKING: Former NBA 2nd Overall Pick Reportedly Signs With New Team
Hasheem Thabeet most recently played in the NBA during the 2013-14 season when he was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
That season, he averaged 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 56.5% from the field in 23 games.
Thabeet played in the CBA last season, and averaged 10.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 3.7 blocks per contest while shooting 57.9% from the field in three games.
On Wednesday, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Thabeet is now signing with a team in Taiwan.
Via Scotto: "Former No. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet is signing with the Kaohsiung Steelers in Taiwan, agent Jerry Dianis told @hoopshype. Thabeet will join former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett on the team. Jeremy Lin previously played for the Steelers as well."
Thabeet was initially the second pick in the 2009 NBA Draft out of UConn by the Memphis Grizzlies.
The 36-year-old played five seasons in the NBA for the Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder (and Grizzlies).
His career averages are 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 56.7% from the field in 224 regular season games (he also appeared in six NBA playoff games with the Thunder).
In addition to the NBA and overseas, Thabeet has also spent time in the G League.
Most recently, he played for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (G League affiliate of the Indiana Pacers) in 2020 and averaged 4.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest.
