On Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Clippers are playing the New Orleans Pelicans at home in California.

During the game, 2018 MVP James Harden made NBA history by moving ahead of Maurice Cheeks (7,392) for 15th on the all-time assists list.

Following Cheeks, the next player for him to pass will be Rajon Rondo (7,584).

Via The Clippers: "With his 7,393rd career assist, James Harden surpassed Maurice Cheeks for sole possession of 15th place on the @NBA's all-time assists list."

Harden is known for being an all-time great scorer, but he is also one of the best passers (and play-makers).

The former Arizona State star came into the evening with averages of 17.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.6 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 44.8% from the field and 41.8% from the three-point range in 44 games.

Harden is also playing in his 1,045th career game, which moves ahead of Elden Campbell and ties DeAndre Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain for 119th on the NBA's all-time regular season games played list.

Following Jordan and Chamberlain, the next player for him to pass will be Leroy Ellis (1,048).

As for the Clippers, they are among the best teams in the league with a 34-15 record in 49 games, which has them as the first seed in the Western Conference.

They are in the middle of a four-game winning streak and have gone 9-1 over their last ten games.

Following the Pelicans, the Clippers will host Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Harden was the third pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and is in his 15th season in the league.
