BREAKING: Miami Heat Sign Recent NBA 1st Round Pick

On Wednesday, the Miami Heat signed R.J. Hampton, who was the 24th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The 22-year-old averaged 6.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 43.0% from the field and 35.3% from the three-point range.

This summer, the Pistons waived Hampton, so he became a free agent available to sign with any team in the league.

On Wednesday, the Miami Heat announced that they have signed Hampton.

Via The Miami Heat: "Your Miami HEAT announced today that they have waived Jamaree Bouyea and Caleb Daniels and signed Jon Elmore and Cheick Diallo. Following those roster moves, the HEAT waived Elmore and signed RJ Hampton to a Two-Way Contract. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed."

Hampton was initially the 24th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

In addition to the Pistons, he has also played for the Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic.

His career averages are 7.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest while shooting 41.0% from the field and 34.2% from the three-point range in 162 regular season games.

The Heat are known for bringing out the best in role players, so the addition of Hampton could end up being an excellent signing.

As for the Heat, they are coming off a year where they were the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.

They beat the Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics in the first three rounds of the NBA playoffs and lost to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals.
