BREAKING: Milwaukee Bucks Reportedly Make Shocking Decision
UPDATE: The Bucks have officially announced that Adrian Griffin has been fired.
UPDATE: Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated provided more context.
Via Mannix: "There have been steady rumblings for weeks in NBA circles that several Bucks veterans, including Giannis, had lost faith in Griffin. What appeared to be smart hire last spring just never worked out."
The Milwaukee Bucks are currently the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 30-13 record in their first 43 games.
However, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that the team fired head coach Adrian Griffin.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski: "BREAKING: The Milwaukee Bucks dismissed coach Adrian Griffin, sources tell ESPN."
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that NBA Champion head coach Doc Rivers is a candidate to replace Griffin.
Via Charania: "Doc Rivers has emerged as a serious candidate to become the Milwaukee Bucks new head coach, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium."
Firing a head coach in the middle of the season happens, but it's more surprising because the Bucks are among the best teams in the league.
In addition, Griffin had only been in his first year at the helm.
The Bucks have been an elite team for quite some time and have made the playoffs in each of the previous seven seasons.
They have two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who led them to the 2021 NBA Championship.
In addition, the Bucks acquired All-Star point guard Damian Lillard over the offseason, so they have arguably the best duo in the Eastern Conference.
Right now, the Bucks are 6-4 over their last ten games, and they are in the middle of a two-game winning streak.
Following the Pistons, they will host Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday evening in Wisconsin.
On the road, the Bucks are 11-9 in 20 games, while they are 19-4 in the 23 games they have played at home.
