BREAKING: Portland Trail Blazers Reportedly Sign New Point Guard
Ashton Hagans last played in the NBA during the 2021 NBA season when he appeared in two games as a rookie with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
This summer, he was a free agent, and (on Friday) Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and the NBA on TNT reported that the 24-year-old point guard will sign with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Via Haynes: "Point guard Ashton Hagans has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, his agent Daniel Hazan of @hazansportsmgmt tells @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport."
Coming out of high school, Hagans was ranked by ESPN as the 20th-best player in the country (and the third-best point guard).
He played two seasons of college basketball for Kentucky and averaged 9.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.8 steals per contest while shooting 43.2% from the field and 25.8% from the three-point range in 67 games.
Hagans has also played three seasons in the G League, and this past year he averaged 6.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 48.8% from the field in 30 regular season games (he also appeared in nine Showcase Cup games).
Since he was once a top prospect (and is still so young), he could end up being a good pickup by the Trail Blazers for their training camp roster.
This past year, the Trail Blazers were the 13th seed in the Western Conference with a 33-49 record.
They have a talented roster but have missed the NBA playoffs for two straight years.
