BREAKING: Portland Trail Blazers Reportedly Sign Recent Suns Player
Ish Wainright is coming off a year where he appeared in 60 regular season games for the Phoenix Suns.
Wainright averaged 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 37.0% from the field and 32.9% from the three-point range.
He also appeared in six NBA playoff games, as the Suns lost in the second round to the Denver Nuggets (in six games).
Recently, the Suns waived Wainright, and Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that the Portland Trail Blazers are now signing him.
Via Charania: "The Portland Trail Blazers are waiving Kevin Knox and picking up former Phoenix Suns forward Ish Wainright off free agency waivers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium."
Wainright has been in the NBA for two seasons (all with the Suns), and has career averages of 3.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest while shooting 37.8% from the field and 32.8% from the three-point range (he has also appeared in 13 NBA playoff games).
As for the Trail Blazers, they are coming off a year where they were the 13th seed in the Western Conference with a 33-49 record.
Despite having a talented roster led by All-Star Damian Lillard, they missed the NBA playoffs for the second straight season.
Over the offseason, the Trail Blazers traded Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks in a blockbuster three-team deal that also included the Suns.
The Trail Blazers will play their first game of the 2023-24 season when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers in California on October 25.
