BREAKING: Recent OKC Thunder Player Reportedly Signs With Wizards
Jared Butler is coming off a season where he played six games for the Oklahoma City Thunder and averaged 6.2 points and 1.7 assists per contest while shooting 46.9% from the field and 50.0% from the three-point range.
This summer, he became a free agent, and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Butler will sign a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards.
Via Wojnarowski: "Free agent G Jared Butler has agreed on a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards, agent Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN. Butler has played with Utah and Oklahoma City in his first two NBA seasons."
Butler was initially the 40th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Baylor and spent his rookie season with the Utah Jazz.
His career averages are 4.1 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest while shooting 41.5% from the field and 34.3% from the three-point range in 48 regular season games (he has also appeared in one NBA playoff game).
Right before Wojnarowski reported the addition of Butler, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, said that the Wizards had waived Quenton Jackson.
As for the Wizards, they have missed the NBA playoffs for two straight seasons.
This past year, they were the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference and had a 35-47 record.
Over the offseason, the Wizards made several moves, such as trading franchise cornerstones Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis.
Therefore, the franchise went in a different direction and likely will not be a team contending for the 2024 NBA playoffs.
