Brooklyn Nets Release 2021 NBA Draft Pick
RaiQuan Gray was initially the 59th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Florida State.
The talented forward played three seasons for the Seminoles and helped them make the NCAA Tournament twice.
He did not play in the NBA during his rookie season, but this past year he appeared in one game with the Nets (and had 16 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and one block on 50% shooting).
On Tuesday, the Nets announced that they had waived the 24-year-old.
Via Nets PR: "OFFICIAL: The Brooklyn Nets have requested waivers on forward RaiQuan Gray."
In addition to his one game with the Nets, Gray also played in the G League for the Long Island Nets (he was on a two-way contract).
Gray averaged a very productive 15.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals per contest while shooting 57.8% from the field and 38.2% from the three-point range 18 regular season games (he also appeared in 12 Showcase Cup games and two G League playoff games).
He could be a good pickup for a team on a two-way deal or continue to play in the G League.
As for the Nets, they are coming off a year where they were the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference and had a 45-37 record.
They got swept by Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
The franchise entered rebuilding mode after trading Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant during the middle of the season.
