BREAKING: Brooklyn Nets Reportedly Signing Former 6th Overall Pick
Nerlens Noel had played 14 games for the Detroit Pistons this season before being bought out of his contract last month.
Upon clearing waivers, he was available to sign with any team in the league.
On Saturday morning, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the former Kentucky star is signing with the Brooklyn Nets.
Wojnarowski: "Free agent center Nerlens Noel is signing a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, his agent @GeorgeLangberg tells ESPN. After completing buyout with Pistons, Noel joins a Nets team needing some size off the bench."
Noel was the sixth pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and is in his ninth season in the NBA.
The Nets will be his sixth team, as he has also had stints with the Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Knicks (in addition to the Pistons).
He is currently averaging 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest.
However, he was a productive player for the Knicks in 2022 and averaged 3.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest.
Before this year, he had averaged at least 1.2 blocks per contest for four straight seasons.
Noel also has career averages of 6.1 rebounds per contest, and the Nets currently rank last in the NBA for rebounds (46.9 RPG)
Right now, the Nets are the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 35-28 record in 63 games.
They are 3-7 in their last ten games and coming off a miraculous 115-105 win over the Boston Celtics on Friday night (they had trailed by as many as 28 points).
The Nets will play their next game on Sunday night when they host the Charlotte Hornets at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
