Former NBA 3rd Overall Pick Is Still A Free Agent
Derrick Favors most recently played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season when he was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The former Georgia Tech star averaged 5.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest while shooting 51.6% from the field.
During the middle of last season, he signed a ten-day deal with the Atlanta Hawks but did not appear in a game.
This summer, Favors is still a free agent and (on August 26) remains available to be signed by any team in the league.
Favors was initially the third pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, so he had high expectations coming out of college.
In addition to the Thunder, he has also played for the New Jersey Nets, Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans.
The 32-year-old has career averages of 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest while shooting 53.4% from the field in 790 regular season games (he has also appeared in 42 NBA playoff games).
While Favors never made the All-Star Game, he has been a reliable veteran and an above-average rebounder.
There are many teams that could look to add him for depth to their bench.
Arguably the best season of his career was in 2015, when he averaged 16.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.7 blocks per contest while shooting 52.5% from the field in 72 games for the Jazz.
The following year, he put up similar numbers, as his best tenure came with the Jazz (whom he played with for nine and a half seasons).
