Golden State Warriors NBA Champion Speaks On Future With Franchise
On Tuesday evening, the Golden State Warriors played the Sacramento Kings (on the road) for their play-in tournament matchup.
The Warriors got blown out (118-94), so they have now been eliminated from the 2024 postseason (and will not qualify for the 2024 NBA playoffs).
Gary Payton II did not play in the team's final four games (including Tuesday's loss).
However, he has been a key role player for the franchise, and finished the regular season with averages of 5.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 56.3% from the field and 36.4% from the three-point range in 44 games.
On Wednesday, Payton II was asked about his future with the franchise (he has a player option in his contract for next season).
Payton II (via Warriors on NBCS): "We're gonna figure it out. If we can redo it and get it done it'd be great. Right now, this moment take some time, let this ease out, but for sure figure it out."
Payton II has had two stints with the Warriors and helped them win the 2022 NBA Championship over the Boston Celtics.
In addition to the Warriors, he has also spent time with the Washington Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers.
His career averages are 5.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 55.1% from the field and 34.5% from the three-point range in 208 regular season games.
He has also appeared in 24 NBA playoff games.
