On Tuesday evening, the Golden State Warriors lost to the Kings (in Sacramento) by a score of 124-123.
During the game, Gary Payton II got injured, and he did not return.
On Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that Payton II will be out indefinitely.
Via Charania: "Golden State Warriors G/F Gary Payton II has suffered a torn right calf and will be sidelined indefinitely, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium."
Payton II has played in 14 games so far this season and is averaging 5.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 47.9% from the field and 32.1% from the three-point range.
The former Oregon State star has already missed four games this season.
He is one of their best role players and a very reliable defender, so this will be a significant loss for the Warriors in the short term.
The Warriors are 8-10 in their first 18 games, which has them as the tenth seed in the Western Conference.
They are 2-8 over their previous ten games and will host James Harden and the Los Angeles Clippers at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Thursday evening.
Payton II is in his eighth season in the NBA and his second stint with Golden State.
He helped the franchise win the 2022 NBA Championship and returned in a trade (via the Portland Trail Blazers) last season.
The 30-year-old has career averages of 5.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals per contest.
