Stephen Curry Gives His Pick For 2022-23 NBA MVP Award
This season's MVP race is coming down to the final few days of the 2022-23 NBA regular season and very little separates this year's candidates.
Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo have all had stellar seasons and each are deserving of such an honor, but only one of them can be named the NBA's MVP.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry knows a thing or two about winning this illustrious award, as he was awarded the 2014-15 NBA MVP award, as well as the 2015-16 NBA MVP award, becoming the first player to win the award unanimously in 2016.
Recently talking with Chris Haynes from Bleacher Report, Curry gave his opinion on who should win this season's award.
"I would say Joel," Curry said. "Any person you pick, their body of work could be compared to Jokic or Giannis. But Joel took a leap that I think a lot of people didn't expect because he was dominant already. That leap turned heads and put Philly in a great position. If I had to pick, it would be him."
For the Philadelphia 76ers this season, Joel Embiid has played in a total of 64 games, averaging a league-high 33.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 54.2 percent from the floor.
All season long, Embiid has been arguably the best offensive weapon in the league and the growth he has made not just as an offensive threat, but on the defensive-side of the floor is why many tend to think that he deserves the MVP award this season.
With four games remaining on their schedule, the 76ers find themselves with a 51-27 record, currently five games back of the Milwaukee Bucks for the 1-seed in the Eastern Conference and three games back of the Boston Celtics for the 2-seed.
Joel Embiid has done everything he can to put the 76ers in a position to contend for a title and after leading the league in scoring a season ago, Embiid seems very likely to do so once again. Not to mention, this is back-to-back seasons now for the Sixers with at least 51 wins.
You really cannot go wrong with any of the MVP candidates this season, but in Steph Curry's mind, Joel Embiid in this year's Most Valuable Player.
