Kings' Keegan Murray Sets New NBA Rookie Record On Wednesday Night
Wednesday night was not only historic for the Sacramento Kings because they clinched a playoff spot for the first time since the 2005-06 season, but rookie forward Keegan Murray also made NBA history.
In Sacramento's 120-80 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, Murray went 3-7 from three-point range, passing Donovan Mitchell for the most threes made by a rookie in NBA history.
During his rookie season, Mitchell made a total of 187 three-pointers with the Utah Jazz. This season, Keegan Murray has made 188 three-pointers and he still has six regular season games left!
Drafted fourth overall by the Kings this past summer, Murray has been exactly what this franchise has been lacking out on the wing.
He is a very versatile scorer that has filled his role to perfection and the organization is very high on the player he can still become, as three-point shooting is just one aspect of his game that stands out.
Following this game in Portland, Murray has now played in 74 of his team's 76 total games, averaging 11.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 40.7 percent from three-point range.
In addition to leading all rookies this season in total made threes, Murray also ranks first in threes made per game, threes attempted per game and first in three-point shooting percentage (min. 200 attempts).
Overall, Murray ranks sixth in scoring and ninth in rebounding in this year's rookie class.
Keegan Murray will undoubtedly be named to the All-Rookie First Team at the conclusion of the regular season and his name will forever live in the league's history books in terms of one of the best shooting seasons by a rookie.
