Kevin Durant's Brutally Honest Quote After Suns Get Eliminated
On Thursday evening, the Phoenix Suns got blown out (125-100) by the Denver Nuggets in Game 6 of their second-round playoff series.
Therefore, they have now been eliminated, while the Nuggets will advance to the Western Conference Finals.
The Suns traded for 13-time NBA All-Star Kevin Durant (via the Brooklyn Nets) in February, so they had expectations to make a run to the 2023 NBA Finals.
Thursday's game was a massive disappointment, as they trailed by 18 points at the end of the first quarter (and 30 at halftime).
After the game, the former Texas star met with the media and was honest when a reporter asked about the Nuggets' significant lead in the first half (video via Duane Rankin of azcentral).
Durant: "It sucked. It was a bad feeling. It was embarrassing. They came out and hit us in the mouth and we couldn't recover. You gotta give them credit for being a disciplined team."
Durant finished the night with 23 points, five rebounds, five assists and one block in 37 minutes of playing time.
However, he shot just 8/19 from the field and did not attempt a three-pointer.
At 34, the future Hall of Famer is still among the ten best players in the league and finished the regular season with averages of 29.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.4 blocks per contest while shooting 56.0% from the field and 40.4% from the three-point range.
In addition to the Suns (and Nets), he has also had stints with the Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors.
Durant won the 2014 MVP Award as a member of the Thunder and won two NBA Championships (and two Finals MVPs) with the Warriors.
