Former 2016 Top Draft Pick Signs With A New Team

Kris Dunn, the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, has agreed to a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz.

Last playing for the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2021-22 NBA season, former top pick Kris Dunn has agreed to a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz, first reported by The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Shams Charania: "Former No. 5 overall pick Kris Dunn is signing a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz, sources tell me and @Tjonesonthenba. Dunn, a six-year NBA veteran, has played for Caputal City Go-Go in G League this season."

Drafted fifth overall in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kris Dunn was never really able to find his footing in the NBA.

After playing in 78 games with the Timberwolves during his rookie season, averaging just 3.8 points per game, Dunn was traded along with Zach LaVine to the Chicago Bulls, where he spent a total of three seasons and proved to be an effective secondary option in the team's backcourt.

At the conclusion of his rookie deal though, Dunn left Chicago and signed a deal with the Atlanta Hawks, where he only played in a total of four games during the 2020-21 season due to leg injuries which required surgery.

Traded to the Boston Celtics and then to the Memphis Grizzlies the following offseason, Dunn was waived by Memphis and did not get another chance to play in the NBA until he signed a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers near the end of last season.

Since then, Kris Dunn has been playing for the Capital City Go-Go, the Washington Wizards G League affiliates, in the NBA G League.

Playing in a total of 245 NBA games over his six-year career, Dunn has averaged 8.1 points, 4.2 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 42.0 percent from the floor.

Now a member of the Jazz on a 10-day contract, Dunn will look to prove his worth in what could realistically be one of his final shots to earn another NBA contract.
