BREAKING: Kyrie Irving Has A New Uniform Number
On Monday night, the Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets completed their blockbuster trade that sent All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to the Mavs.
In addition to the trade being finalized, it's also been revealed that he will wear No. 2 with his new team (he had previously worn No. 11 with the Nets).
Via Mavs PR: "Kyrie Irving is an eight-time All-Star, a three-time All-NBA selection and helped the Cavaliers to an NBA Championship in 2016.
Irving is one of seven players averaging 27.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in 2022-23.
Irving will wear #2 for the Mavericks."
Irving was in the middle of his fourth season with the Nets (and helped lead them to a 32-20 record in 52 games).
His tenure with the franchise will be looked back on as disappointing because they only won just one playoff series despite the elite talent that was on the roster.
Before the Nets, the former Duke star played for the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers (Irving wore No. 2 with the Cavs).
In 2016, he helped lead the Cavs to the NBA Championship over the Golden State Warriors.
As for the Mavs, they are now one of the most intriguing teams in the league because they have superstar Luka Doncic (who led them to the Western Conference Finals in 2022).
With the addition of Irving, they will likely have even more of a chance to compete for a title.
That said, the eight-time NBA All-Star will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so there is no guarantee he will be playing with the Mavs long-term.
