On Monday evening, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets advanced to the 2023 NBA Finals when they beat the Los Angeles Lakers by a score of 113-111 in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. 

This is the first time that the franchise has made the NBA Finals in its history. 

Jokic has won the MVP Award in two out of the previous three seasons and has been brilliant during the 2023 Playoffs with averages of 29.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, 10.3 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 53.8% from the field and 47.4% from the three-point range.  

The former second-round pick won the Earvin Magic Johnson Western Conference Finals MVP Award after the Nuggets beat the Lakers. 

On Tuesday evening, Johnson sent out a bold tweet about Jokic, giving him significant praise.

Johnson tweeted: "The Joker is changing the game of basketball right before our very eyes much like Michael, Larry, LeBron, Steph, Kobe, Kareem, and Shaq."

That is a huge compliment coming from Johnson, who is arguably the best point guard the league's history. 

Jokic has been excellent for the last five seasons, but winning a title would give him the ultimate validation.  

The Nuggets are the first seed in the Western Conference and have beaten the Minnesota Timberwolves (in five games) and the Phoenix Suns (in six games) in addition to the Lakers. 

They will face off against either the Miami Heat or the Boston Celtics in the Finals (the Heat have a 3-1 lead in the series).
