Grizzlies Superstar Accused Of Assault And Flashing Gun
Ja Morant is one of the brightest, young superstars in the NBA for the Memphis Grizzlies and he is having yet another stellar season. However, off-the-court drama involving Morant is beginning to grow louder, as recent acquisitions towards the two-time NBA All-Star are extremely serious.
According to records obtained by the Washington Post, Morant was accused of threatening the head of security at a mall in Memphis during a parking lot altercation in the summer. In addition, Morant is also being accused of punching a 17-year-old boy in the head repeatedly during a pickup game at the 23-year-old’s house a few days after the incident at the mall. No arrests were made in either situation.
In the reports, it is said that Morant went into his house after hitting the 17-year-old boy and “re-emerged with a gun visible in the waistband of his pants and his hand on the weapon.” Morant told the police that the teen was the aggressor in this incident and that he threw a ball at his head and stepped towards him, so Morant acted in self-defense.
More recently, several of Morant’s friends allegedly “aggressively confronted” members of the Indiana Pacers staff after their game at the FedExForum in January. According to The Athletic’s Bob Kravitz and Sam Amick, the group allegedly trained a red laser on the Pacers staff from a slow-moving SUV that Morant was said to be in.
The Pacers staff and additional security believed the laser was attached to a gun, but nobody saw who was pointing the laser from the SUV.
It is also worth noting that on January 21 against the Los Angeles Lakers in Los Angeles, Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant, got into an altercation with Fox Sports host and NFL Hall-of-Famer Shannon Sharpe.
All of this news is certainly troublesome for the young 23-year-old star, especially given that he is being linked to multiple situations now.
No updates have been given by the Memphis Grizzlies, the NBA or Ja Morant at this time on the new reports from the Washington Post.
The Grizzlies, currently 37-23 on the season, are the 2-seed in the Western Conference and have high title aspirations heading into the final month of the regular season with Morant leading them.
