Memphis Grizzlies Officially Announce Blockbuster Trade
The Memphis Grizzlies are coming off a solid season where they finished as the second seed in the Western Conference with a 51-31 record.
They have a young roster but continue to be among the best teams in the league during the regular season.
On Friday morning, the team officially announced their blockbuster three-team trade with the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards, which lands them with veteran guard Marcus Smart.
Via Grizzlies PR: "The @memgrizz today announced the team acquired Marcus Smart from the Boston Celtics in a three-team trade also including the Washington Wizards."
Smart has spent all nine seasons of his pro career with the Celtics and helped them finish the 2023 season as the second seed in the Eastern Conference (they lost to the Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Conference Finals).
While the franchise didn't win a title during his tenure, they made the Conference Finals five times and the NBA Finals in 2022.
The former Oklahoma State star has played in an astonishing 108 NBA Playoffs games, so he brings a level of experience to the Grizzlies that is much needed.
This past year, Smart averaged 11.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting 41.5% from the field.
In addition to helping the team as a leader, he is one of the best defenders in the NBA and won the 2022 Defensive Player of The Year Award.
Despite winning 50+ games in two straight seasons, the Grizzlies have been unable to make a deep run in the postseason.
