The Miami Heat began training camp earlier this month and have now played two preseason games (they are 1-1).

On Saturday, the team announced that they had waived two players.

Via The Heat: "OFFICIAL: The Miami HEAT have waived Drew Peterson and Alondes Williams."

Peterson went undrafted this past summer after playing five seasons of college basketball (two for Rice and three for USC).

Last year, he averaged 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 44.2% from the field and 35.8% from the three-point range in 33 games.

Meanwhile, Williams went undrafted in 2022 and played one game for the Brooklyn Nets last season.

He spent the majority of the year in the G League and averaged 13.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 51.3% from the field and 37.5% from the three-point range in 24 regular season games (he also appeared in 11 Showcase Cup games and two G League playoff games).

As for the Heat, they will play their first game of the regular season on October 25 when they host Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons in Florida.

This past season, the Heat were the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference but defeated the Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics in the first three rounds of the NBA playoffs (they lost to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals).

The franchise has made the Finals in two out of the previous four seasons.
