Minnesota Timberwolves And San Antonio Spurs Reportedly Agree To A Trade
UPDATE: According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Timberwolves will select Leonard Miller.
Miller played in the G League this past year and averaged an impressive 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest while shooting 55.6% from the field during 24 regular season games.
On Thursday evening, the 2023 NBA Draft is taking place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The San Antonio Spurs were the lucky team of the night, who had the first pick, so they were able to select Victor Wembanyama.
Later in the evening, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Spurs have made a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Via Wojnarowski's first tweet: "Minnesota has traded to get No. 33 from San Antonio, source tells ESPN."
Via Wojnarowski's second tweet: "The Timberwolves are sending the Spurs two future second-round picks, source says."
There are typically many trades in the second round, so a deal like this does not come as a surprise.
While the Spurs will no longer have the 33rd pick, they currently still own the 44th pick.
As for the Timberwolves, they did not have a first-round pick and will gain the 33rd pick, in addition to already having the 53rd pick.
Last year, the Timberwolves made the NBA Playoffs for the second straight season, but they lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round (in five games).
Meanwhile, the Spurs have missed the postseason for four straight years but have won five NBA Championships since 1999.
