Minnesota Timberwolves Sign Former Ohio State Star

The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed D.J. Carton.

D.J. Carton is coming off a year where he played for the Iowa Wolves (G League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves).

Carton averaged 15.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 52.9% from the field and 36.5% from the three-point range in 25 regular season games (he also appeared in 17 Showcase Cup games).

On Thursday, the Timberwolves announced that they had signed Carton to a contract.

Via Timberwolves PR: "The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has signed guard D.J. Carton. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released. In a subsequent move, the team announced it has waived guard Vít Krejč."

Carton initially went undrafted in 2021 after two seasons of college basketball playing for Ohio State and Marquette.

During his freshman year (with Ohio State), he averaged 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest while shooting 47.7% from the field and 40.0% from the three-point range in 20 games.

Based on the timing of Carton's deal with the Timberwolves, it's likely that he will play for the Iowa Wolves again this season.

His career averages (in the G League) are 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 50.7% from the field and 31.0% from the three-point range in 47 regular season games (he has also appeared in 27 Showcase Cup games).

As for the Timberwolves, they will play their first game of the regular season against the Toronto Raptors on October 25.
