New York Knicks Officially Sign 2-Year NBA Player
On Wednesday evening, the New York Knicks are hosting Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden for their first game of the 2023-24 NBA season.
With the offseason coming to a close, the team has finalized its roster by signing Duane Washington Jr. to a two-way deal (on Tuesday afternoon).
This past year, Washington Jr. played 31 regular season games for the Phoenix Suns and averaged 7.9 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 36.7% from the field and 36.0% from the three-point range.
Via Knicks PR: "The New York Knicks announced today that the team has signed guard Duane Washington Jr. to a two-way contract."
Washington Jr. played three seasons of college basketball for Ohio State and went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft.
He has played two seasons in the league for the Indiana Pacers and Phoenix Suns.
His career averages are 9.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 39.1% from the field and 37.1% from the three-point range in 79 regular season games.
The 23-year-old has proven he is a capable shooter and scorer at the NBA level, so Washington Jr. has the chance to be a solid addition to the Knicks' bench.
The Knicks are coming off a year where they were the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference.
They defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the NBA playoffs but lost to Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in the second round (in six games).
