New York Knicks Reportedly Sign Recent Suns Player
Duane Washington Jr. is coming off a year where he appeared in 31 regular season games for the Phoenix Suns.
The former Ohio State star averaged 7.9 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 36.7% from the field and 36.0% from the three-point range.
This summer, he became a free agent and signed a deal with the New York Knicks.
On Saturday, the Knicks waived Washington Jr., but Ian Begley of SNY reports that he will now sign a two-way deal with the team.
Via Begley: "Duane Washington Jr. will get the Knicks’ final two-way spot, per SNY sources. Knicks will sign Washington Jr. to a two-way deal, which will fill out the current roster. With Washington Jr. on a two-way, Knicks will have 15 standard contracts and three 2-way players"
Washington Jr. has played two seasons in the NBA with the Pacers and Suns.
His career averages are 9.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 39.1% from the field and 37.1% from the three-point range in 79 regular season games.
Since he has proven to be a solid scorer and reliable three-point shooter, this could end up being a good move by the Knicks.
The Knicks will play their first game of the season on October 25 when they host Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Last year, they lost in the second round of the NBA playoffs to the Miami Heat (in six games).
