On Thursday evening, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets won Game 1 of the NBA Finals over the Miami Heat by a score of 104-93.

With the victory, they take a 1-0 lead in the series, and Game 2 will be back on their home floor (in Denver) on Sunday night.

Jokic played 40 minutes and had 27 points, ten rebounds, 14 assists, one steal and one block on 8/12 shooting from the field.

After the game, he spoke to Lisa Salters on the ABC broadcast and shared a fantastic quote.

Salters: "Another triple-double for you; your teammates describe you as a maestro. Entering the fourth quarter, you'd only taken five shots but yet you were dominating the game. How do you do that?"

Jokic: "Right now, the most important thing is to win the game, and I'm trying to win a game any possible way. I don't need to shoot, and I know I don't need to score to affect the game."

The two-time MVP has been unbelievable during the 2023 NBA Playoffs with averages of 29.8 points, 13.1 rebounds, 10.5 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 54.2% from the field and 47.5% from the three-point range through the first 16 games.

After finishing the regular season as the first seed in the Western Conference, the Nuggets have defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves (in five games), Phoenix Suns (in six games) and Los Angeles Lakers (in four games) through the first three rounds.

They have now won all three of their games against the Heat this season.
