On Monday evening, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets won the 2023 NBA Championship when they beat the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the NBA Finals by a score of 94-89.

Jokic played 42 minutes and put up 28 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and one block on 12/16 shooting from the field. 

After winning his first title, the 28-year-old center spoke to Lisa Salters of ABC and shared a straightforward quote that is going viral on social media. 

Salters: "And now you are an NBA Champion, Nikola. How does that feel?"

Jokic: "It's good. It's good. The job is done. We can go home now."

Jokic was clearly the best player in the NBA during the 2023 postseason and finished with averages of 30.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, 9.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks per contest while shooting 54.8% from the field and 46.1% from the three-point range.

He also won the NBA Finals MVP Award, which is another significant milestone for his future Hall of Fame career.  

The Nuggets were the first seed in the Western Conference and finished the regular season with a 53-29 record. 

In addition to the Heat, they beat the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers through the first three rounds. 

This was the first time the Nuggets had made the Finals, so it's also the franchise's first NBA Championship. 

Jokic was the 41st pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and is widely seen as the best second-round pick ever.
