OKC Thunder Reportedly Trade For NBA Champion
Patty Mills is a talented point guard who has been in the NBA for 14 seasons.
This past year, the 34-year-old averaged 6.2 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest while shooting 41.1% from the field and 36.6% from the three-point in 40 games for the Brooklyn Nets.
On Sunday afternoon ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Oklahoma City Thunder will acquire Mills in a trade.
Via Wojnarowski: "Oklahoma City is acquiring Brooklyn guard Patty Mills as part of a broader deal through Houston, sources tell ESPN. The Thunder will receive draft compensation to take on Mills’ $6.8M expiring deal."
Mills was initially the 55th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers and spent the first two seasons of his career with the franchise.
Following the Trail Blazers, Mills played ten seasons for the San Antonio Spurs and helped the team win the 2014 NBA Championship over LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
Over 860 regular season games, he has career averages of 9.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while shooting 42.6% from the field and 38.9% from the three-point range (he's also played in 95 NBA Playoff games).
The Thunder are coming off a season where they went 40-42 and made the play-in tournament.
They beat the New Orleans Pelicans in the first play-in tournament game but lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves, so they were unable to make the NBA Playoffs.
The season was still a success since they are a young team with no expectations.
