Oklahoma City Thunder Make Two Roster Moves On Monday
Despite Chet Holmgren, the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, being out for the season due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot and the fact that they are one of the youngest teams in the entire league, the Oklahoma City Thunder still find themselves fighting for a spot in the Western Conference Play-In Tournament with less than two months remaining in the regular season.
The Thunder, led by breakout star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have cemented themselves as a very competitive team in this league and a team that can win against anyone on any given night due to their balance.
This team has a lot of depth on their roster, which is why a lot of their young players are constantly in and out of the rotation, one of which being Tre Mann.
Drafted 18th overall in 2021, Mann has served as Gilgeous-Alexander’s backup and he has shown flashes of his full potential this season, but the Thunder are wanting to give him more playing time to develop, which is why they sent him down to the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA G League on Monday.
In addition to assigning Mann to the G League, the Thunder also recalled Jeremiah Robinson-Earl from the Oklahoma City Blue, as he is working his way back from an ankle sprain. Robinson-Earl has not played for the Thunder since mid-December.
Playing in a total of 50 games this season, Mann has averaged 8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game for the Thunder while shooting 39.4 percent from the floor and only 31.0 percent from three-point range.
Early on this season, he did record a 25-point night against the Los Angeles Clippers, which is his highest scoring performance of the season so far.
After being sent to the G League on Monday, Mann participated in the Blue’s game against the Memphis Hustle, finishing with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in a 133-113 loss.
As for Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, he re-joins the Thunder with a chance to return to action from his ankle injury. Prior to this injury, he was averaging 8.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the floor and 38.2 percent from three-point range, the best shooting numbers of his young career.
Both Tre Mann and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl are two young, core pieces of the Thunder’s long-term future, which is why getting them as much time to develop and work on their craft is vital.
Mann will likely be recalled from the G League in the coming days and will likely be with the team when they take on the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.
