Orlando Magic Release 3-Year NBA Player
Miye Oni most recently played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season when he appeared in 16 games for the Utah Jazz.
This summer, Oni was a free agent, and he signed a deal with the Orlando Magic.
However, the team has now signed Daeqwon Plowden (and waived Oni).
Via The Magic: "In addition, Orlando has waived guard/forward Miye Oni. He did not appear in any preseason games with the Magic."
Oni was initially the 58th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Yale and has played three seasons in the NBA (all with the Jazz).
His career averages are 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 35.0% from the field in 80 regular season games (he has also appeared in ten NBA playoff games).
Meanwhile, Plowden played in the G League last year, and had averages of 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest while shooting 44.3% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point range in 24 regular season games (he also appeared in 18 Showcase Cup games).
Based on the timing of these deals, it's possible that both players will play in the G League for the Osceola Magic this season.
As for the Magic, they have gone 2-1 in their first three preseason games and are coming off a 104-92 loss at home to Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans.
They will play their first game of the 2023-24 regular season on October 25, when they host the Houston Rockets.
