Phoenix Suns Reportedly Work Out Recent Los Angeles Lakers Player
The Phoenix Suns have been among the top teams in the NBA over the previous three seasons.
They made the NBA Finals in 2021 and lost in the second round of the Playoffs in each of the last two years.
During the regular season, the team acquired future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant, and over the summer, they landed three-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal.
Now, they must find the right role players to surround their superstars.
On Sunday evening, Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and the NBA on TNT reported that the team recently worked out NBA veteran Darren Collison.
Via Haynes: "Free agent veteran guard Darren Collison worked out for Phoenix Suns last week and had a great showing, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport. Phoenix remains aggressive in searching for complementary players."
Collison has played 11 seasons in the NBA for the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Hornets and Los Angeles Lakers (he was the 21st pick in the 2009 NBA Draft).
He most recently played for the Lakers during the 2020-21 season when he appeared in three games.
The 35-year-old has career averages of 12.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 47.1% from the field and 39.4% from the three-point range.
While he is no longer in his prime, Collison has always been an excellent shooter and passer, which is the kind of attributes needed to surround Devin Booker, Durant and Beal.
